Pneumonia Overview

Pneumonia causes substantial morbidity and mortality for Medicare patients. The quality measures for pneumonia are based on extensive scientific evidence. To improve patient outcomes, early detection of pneumonia and quality care must be delivered. Quality care for pneumonia includes providing timely and consistent antibiotic administration, oxygenation assessment, influenza and pneumococcal immunizations prior to discharge and smoking cessation counseling.

For quality improvement resources and strategies, please visit the Pneumonia Documents and Links sections.
